Painting laminate cabinets is an inexpensive way to give these uninteresting cabinets a nice little face lift. I used to think that paint would not stick to laminate and therefore, you would need to replace these cabinets, change the doors or be stuck with them but they can be painted with special primer or paint.
Learning how to paint laminate cabinets is not really any harder than learning how to paint any other type of kitchen cabinets but it does take patience. This task however, will be well rewarded with a new look in your kitchen.
If you want to paint your laminate cabinets using an acrylic laytex paint, you will need to sand, prime and then paint the cabinets using the directions on the paint and primer. If, however, you want to skip the sanding and priming, you can use a product called Diamondhard Acrylic Enamel which works pretty well and gives your cabinets a nice new look for about $25.00 per gallon..
Either way, be prepared to put in a lot of patience, muscle and time to get a good professional look.
Once you have painted the laminate cabinets, why not spruce them up with new cabinet knobs? You can give the cabinets a whole new look with designer knobs. My suggestion, however would be to pick the knobs out first so that you can match the paint to the knob if it is colored. Otherwise you may find a knob you love that doesn’t match the paint you’ve already put on your cabinets!
