Everyone uses a kitchen floor mat to wipe their feet, but did you know it can also be an important part of your decorating scheme?
When selecting a mat for your kitchen, consider your decorating theme. In some cases you may be able to get an exact match, but most of the time your choices are somewhat limited. One of the important things to consider is color - you may be able to find a mat that matches your theme but if the colors are wrong, you are better off to get a solid color that matches your colors.
When you shop for a kitchen floor mat, don't forget the area in front of your sink as well as the area in front of your door. Does your dog or cat have a feeding station in the kitchen? Why not get a matching mat to put under the food?
Buying matching mats will coordinate the decorating theme on your floor so it's best to get ones that match. If your kitchen has a very busy design on the floor or walls, then a solid color kitchen floor mat is best. You don’t want too much to compete with your wallpaper or clash with your flooring so stick to solids in a matching or complimentary color.
Buy your kitchen floor mat for practicality as well as looks. A rubber backed mat is good for the door area - the rubber will keep all the dirt and water from leaking onto the floor. It will also stop the mat from sliding around. Also, make sure you get one that is absorbent so water doesn’t stain your floor - this applies to all areas - the kitchen sink area can get pretty wet as can the dog feeding station! When selecting a mat for the sink area, you may want to get one that is confortable to stand on or even a heated one if it is cold by the sink!
Cleaning your kitchen floor mat should be done periodically so make sure it is washable, or resign yourself to buying new ones every so often. If you can get them cheap enough buying new can be a lot more fun than washing! Don’t let your mat get so grungy that it takes away from your nicely decorated kitchen!
