Need some color around your kitchen window?
Then check out this unique curtain idea to make use of your vintage hankies!
If you are decorating in a retro, country, shabby chic or theme décor you can take advantage of
this unique and inexpensive idea to dress up your windows.
First you'll need to collect a bunch of hankies (actually you can use kitchen towels or even tablecloths with this
same curtain idea). Make sure they match your theme or color scheme.
For example, if you were decorating in a paris café theme, you might want to collect linens that have poodles or the
Eiffel tower on them - a Mexican or southwestern theme would look great with Mexican theme hankies -
a collection of different floral hankies would be great for shabby chic or just a country floral décor.
Once you have your hankies, turn your curtain idea into a unique curtain by folding the hankies over in a
triangle and stitching them together on the sides just enough to hold them in a line.
Add a line of stitching about 1 1/2" under the fold and slip the curtain rod through the pocket.
Make sure you place the hankies so that the corners dip down creating a row of V's at the edge of the curtain.
To use this curtain idea with kitchen towels or napkins, you can follow the same steps but only use 2 or 3 towels
depending on the length of your window. If you want to use a vintage tablecloth you can just fold it so that the corner
dips down about halfway down the window - you'll probably have to cut some off in the back to get this to look good.
This is actually a great way to make use of vintage linens that are soiled or have a hole in them as you can just use the
part that still looks good and discard the damaged part.
