  • Laminate - Laminate is a type of plastic bonded to paper and particle board. It is a popular choice because there are many different styles and a large array of colors. Laminates are cost-effective and do not require are lot of maintenance, however, they are not as durable as other materials.
  • Ceramic Tiles - Ceramic tiles are water resistant and available in several color and design options. These tiles can be susceptible to chipping and breakage.
  • Metal - Zinc, copper, and stainless steel are common metals used in residential kitchen countertops. Generally, these are bonded to wood to help reduce the level of noise when you work in the kitchen. They are easy to clean, and resistant to stains. However, metal countertops can be damaged permanently and develop dents faster. They are also prone to wear out faster than the other types of countertops.
  • Solid-Surface - Solid-surface counters are made from plastic resin and additives are added to them to give the surface a particular color. However, solid countertops can get damaged easily with hot metal pans and in comparison to other types of countertops, the solid-surface counters stain easily.

These are the basic kitchen counter options available. What you choose for your project should depend on your budget, personal taste, and usage requirements.
