First Steps to DIY Kitchen Countertop Installation

If you need to replace cabinets and countertops in your kitchen, it is best if you replace both at the same time. It will be easier to demolish and rebuild this way, which, in turn, will help you save a lot of time.

You must measure and order the necessary materials before you start installing the kitchen countertops and cabinets. Also, for a do-it-yourself project, it is best that you create templates for the countertops so that it is easier to order or purchase the required granite.

Next, use tools like a crowbar, hammer, sledgehammer, and screwdriver to remove the existing cabinets and countertops. Identify and patch any cracks and holes in the wall. Now is a good time to paint your kitchen's walls. With the old ones out, you can easily reach the places that you previously could not. Measure the top of the cabinet bases and then create templates for wood veneer or plywood. Create cutouts for the cooktop, sink, and the fixtures.

Next, install the base of the kitchen countertop on top of the base cabinets. If there are many pieces, ensure that they are properly connected before applying the granite adhesive. Use a razor blade to apply the adhesive and remove the excess. Next, install the backsplash against the kitchen wall.

Install the faucet fixtures and, to prevent leakage, apply silicone caulk around the rims. If you have a cooktop, install it on top. Otherwise, push your cooking range into place.

To protect the granite from water penetration and stains, clean the surfaces and apply a granite sealer. Do not use the counters for the next 24 hours or so.
