How to Use Tin Ceiling Tiles in Kitchen Backsplash Designs

Tin ceiling tiles make beautiful kitchen backsplash designs. These tiles are available in many different design finishes. The natural beautiful patina in tin ceiling tiles can give your kitchen an old world look, or you can paint them in colors that complement the overall decor of your kitchen for a more modern look. To use these beautiful tiles for kitchen backsplash, you need to do the following tasks:

  1. Start by measuring the backsplash area of your kitchen. This is the area between the bottom your upper cabinets and the top of the kitchen countertops. Purchase tin ceiling tiles based on the dimensions. The tiles can cover the complete backsplash area or just a portion of it to create various kitchen backsplash designs.
  2. To save money, search garage, estate, or salvage sales for tiles. You can also go online or visit various home improvement stores to buy faux ceiling or pressed tin tiles.
  3. Once you have the tiles, remove the old backsplash and clean the wall to make it ready for the tin ceiling tiles.
  4. Now start laying the tiles. Place the first vertical row in the center. This is similar to the technique used to lay ceramic tiles without using grout. Keep adding tiles until you reach the edge. To hold the tiles in place, spray adhesives on them.
  5. Use a metal cutter or a pair of sharp scissors to trim or cut the tiles. Use pliers to fold over the sharp edges. Press them with your hand or hammer.
  6. Use finishing nails to securely install the tiles to the wall. Before you put in the nails, make sure that each tile is lined up.
